Detailed information about clinical drugs for precision medicine and EMR software.
DrugBank’s clinical drug information tools includes tools for many common use cases. Enter medications accurately, search for information with multiple search tools, and check for alerts, contraindications, side effects and drug-drug interactions.
DrugBank has coverage for all FDA, EMA and Health Canada approved drugs and is updated every day.
The API provides multiple ways to search for drugs so that you can provide the best method for your use case.
Handle task such as inventory management and medication tracking with drug product code lookup using product identifiers such as NDC product codes and package codes, DIN codes, MA codes and RxNorm identifiers.
Input a list of medications to check for interactions. Each drug-drug interaction is classed by severity, and includes management information and references.
Each drug includes detailed information about the pharmacology, toxicity, metabolism and many other details.
In addition to the API, Data downloads are available to enable applications that need to work without the internet. Data downloads are available in JSON, XML, and SQL formats.

Option 1: The Basic Drug List provides minimal functionality for those requiring a drug list only.
The Drug List Module is a standalone module that provides several useful ways to search and access the complete list of drug products available in a jurisdiction.
The Drug List Module enables autocomplete search for drug products, searching by drug ingredient name and a drill down search called that lets the user quickly drill down to a specific product by selecting the attributes they are looking for.
Option 2: The Complete Drug List provides detailed descriptions and information and additional query abilities. In addition, several add-on modules are available for specific use cases.
NOTE: This item includes everything available in the Basic Drug List Module.
Look up information about drug ingredients. Each drug has detailed information including common synonyms, descriptions of the indication, mechanism of action, toxicity, and the chemical structure. Ingredient information has been curated from multiple sources including FDA labels and 7,233 references. Drug Products: Coverage of every FDA and Health Canada approved drug. Includes brand name, labeller, dosage, dose form, route of administration, and the marketing period. The products are linked with the drug ingredients and drug-drug interactions.
The Therapeutic Categories are based on the FDA's “Established Pharmacologic Class” (EPC) which is a pharmacologic class associated with an approved indication of an active moiety that the FDA has determined to be scientifically valid and clinically meaningful.
Drug Pharmacology Descriptions of the mechanism of action, toxicity and metabolism. Also Includes experimental values (when available) for absorption, rate of clearance, route of elimination, volume of distribution, protein binding, half-life and clearance. Includes a set of predicted values for these as well, for use when the experimental value is not available.
Drug Product Concepts Over 240 000 product concepts, each one describing a distinct group of features for one or more products. Product concepts create a vocabulary of drugs, products, and brands, offering a hierarchical structure that enables easy navigation, and the comparison of products (even across regulatory jurisdictions). When available, product concepts are mapped to RxNorm concepts.
Pill Images (USA only) Includes 3,564 full colour pill images sourced from the NIH pill image dataset and linked with both our drug ingredients and drug product datasets. Note: Pill images are only available for the US jurisdiction.
Includes the type of indication or contraindication, the name of the condition associated with the indication and associated ICD10 or MedDRA identifiers. Also includes the ability to search by condition
Get drug-drug interactions (DDI) and adverse effects for a product or ingredient or find drug-drug interactions with a list of medications. DDIs include severity rating and a description of the interaction, and adverse effects include associated ICD10 or MedDRA identifiers. Adverse effects include incidence rates. The adverse effects are collected from clinical trial data, drug labels and post-market reporting.
Default API includes only one jurisdiction (FDA, Health Canada, or EMA). This add-on includes access to approved drugs in two or more jurisdictions.
